Got a script for MOS:DATERANGE?[edit]

Hey friends, does anybody have a quick fix-it local javascript to adjust date ranges per MOS:DATERANGE? I'm looking at List of programs previously broadcast by NBC and I see a lot of stuff that doesn't conform. 1961–1964 should be 1961–64. I'm not sure that's fixable by script. Consider the following sentence: "John Smith (1950–2010), the son of James Smith (1910–1960), was the first chairman (1989–1991), followed by John Jones (1991–1995)." The first two date ranges should not be abbreviated because they are YOB-YOD ranges (and the first also spans a century change), but the second two should be. Knowing the context is impossible for a script. BencherliteTalk 10:32, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Everything Bencherlite said is correct, there's no way an automatic script would work for all pages, but because we know this page doesn't have any YOB-YOD ranges we can let AWB loose on it. I've written a find and replace routine in AWB and it looks like its worked OK. The only things it missed were the oddities where the show had multiple ranges, but there's only a few of those, so doing them by hand should be easy now the bulk of the work has been done. I've checked the page over and can't see any errors, can you give it a once over and let me know if you spot anything. - X201 (talk) 11:16, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

The article's current information is sourced, albeit by a source with unclear fact-checking (rootwebs). Please provide an independent reliable source for your information and post your suggested change at the article's talkpage. So far, all three references I've found say Harvard: the Asian Tribune states "He passed his Barrister- At- Law from Harvard University"; Charisma: Lalith Athulathmudali, a fiftieth year volume says "Three years later at Harvard University he got his LLM with an "A" Average. The thesis he wrote at Harvard in now among its Permanent Collection."; and War Or Peace in Sri Lanka reports a telephone conversation with a friend, who says, "How the hell can you do that, if despite your education at Royal, Oxford and Harvard you use a string of epithets ..." This is not the place for a draft article, so I have collapsed its display. You need to read WP:Your first article, and WP:Autobiography. When you do produce a draft article (hopefully on another subject rather than on yourself) you need to understand that notability must be demonstrated by references to published reliable sources independent of the subject. how to create an article about the intern company that I represent?[edit]

I represent Be Happy International Dating and Marriage agency, and I want to place an article with the detailed information about us on your site, but fow now I can not see how I can do it? Today I tried to edit this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_online_dating_websites and I wanted to add the info about my site too, as it is actuality on-line dating site too, but my attempt was declined as for: Reverted good faith edits by Alisa Mas (talk): No Wikipedia article = no entry in the list. So, I understand that we have no article, this is the reason we can not be in the list?

So, we want to contribute and place an article, but I can not see how I can do it? Would you please help?

JYTDOG had a patent section that was inaccurate and defamatory. When I posted the CORRECT AND ACCURATE and non-defamatory information today, JYTDOG took it down, maintaining the inaccurate and defamatory information. I have again corrected the CRISPR page by TOTALLY ELIMINATING the defamatory and inaccurate patent information with the correct and accurate information, namely:"The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute have been GRANTED ELEVEN US PATENTS pertaining to CRISPR: US 8,945,839; 8,932,814; 8,906,616; 8,895,308; 8,889,418; 8,889,356; 8,871,445; 8,865,406; 8,795,965; 8,771,945 and 8,697,359. The laboratory of Feng Zhang and The Broad Institute also have TWO FURTHER ALLOWED US APPLICATIONS: US 14/226,274 and 14/105,017. The problem with your edit last October was that you added <ref name=undefined /> at the top of the page. This was corrected for you in this later edit. The error message contained the words "help page" in blue, indicating that they were a wikilink, in this case to Help:Cite errors/Cite error references no text. --David Biddulph (talk) 19:47, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

How do I change the name of an article?[edit]

Hi Wikipedia team,

I created the page for the radio show Destination DIY. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destination_DIY

But now the show has changed its name to Rendered. I think the Destination DIY article should now be Rendered_radio, but I can't figure out how to make that happen and I want to make sure I do the process correctly. Can you help me out?

Hello @Bobowikibobo:, see Wikipedia:Extended image syntax for a complete description of image parameters. WP:CAPTION contains useful (but quite lengthy) guidance about caption usage and formatting. GermanJoe (talk) 04:33, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

I have pressed the Submit for Review button multiple times but al always brought back to the same page that asks me to Save again. Please help me figure out 1) if my draft is submitted and 2) if it is not, how can I submit it!

Hi @Indigo Education Company: Your draft is currently not submitted for review. When you click the green "Submit for Review" button, you need to then scroll down and save the page (via the "Save page") button as you would any other edit. That being said, I noticed your username appears to represent a company - usernames on Wikipedia need to represent you as an individual, not a company or any other organization. WP:MODERNPLACENAME[edit]

According to WP:MODERNPLACENAME, when dealing with a geographical location in a historical context, we should use the name from the relevant time period. Is there a similar policy/guideline etc that deals with how non-geographical names are used in the same situation? Hack (talk) 08:01, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

I know nothing of how we do this in association football articles, but with major US sports we use the contemporary name, not the name used today. See 1920 World Series, where the losing team is referred to both by their official name of "Brooklyn Dodgers" and their nickname of "Brooklyn Robins" (reflecting contemporary use of both terms), but never by today's name of Los Angeles Dodgers. Alternately, see Super Bowl III. It refers to the losers as "Baltimore Colts", only using "Indianapolis" to refer to what was then the future, and the winners are mentioned as being part of the "American Football League", with today's name, "American Football Conference", again being used as a term for future events. I don't know a general guideline but for sports teams and leagues I would use the contemporary name with a piped link or redirect to the right article. You didn't specify a football code but I guess it's soccer. Then Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football is the place to ask. Getting hex triplets from images[edit]

Is there any way to get the hex triplet of part of an image without doing it yourself? Two years ago, File:Napoleoniceurope.png was modified by changing the color for Norway and two other states, but its use at Franco-Ottoman alliance (find it with a CTRL+F search for "Napoleon came in direct contact") still reflects the old color. Since {{legend}} relies on the hex coding, I'd like to change it from #0070FF to whatever shade of brown it is now, but I don't know how to get the computer to find the current color's hex triplet, and I don't trust myself to guess accurately. The first result [3] of my first Google search get image color seems to work fine. I dowloaded the image and got the colors shown here. There are also tools which work in browsers without having to download first. Try extension get image color. People at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing may know good tools. Facebook and List of hooligan firms[edit]

I've just reverted a couple of entries over at List of hooligan firms as they were unsourced, and one of the contributors has come back with a source which happens to be Facebook.

I was going to just revert again, as FB is not (usually) a reliable source, but a quick glance shows that many of the firms are supported by facebook pages. Given the nature of the topic - football hooliganism - FB is probably one of the better ways of identifying such firms, and if I revert the recent addition, I'm morally bound to do so to the rest of the entries as well.

The problem here is that you have no idea whether a particular facebook page is self published. Many are published by enemies of the individual or group they claim to represent. Do hooligan firms even have an organization or established leader who can speak authoritatively in the name of the firm?

Problem in creating an article[edit]

I'm not sufficiently familiar with how NY uses townships, but are they not equivalent to towns there? Is this what you're looking for: Easton, New York? Rwessel (talk) 19:35, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

Deleting Administrator[edit]

Hello,

I created a page that was deleted because of the following:

What I am unsure of is why? I created the referenced page (http://www.sou.edu/envirostudies/faculty/jones.html) and used my on photo on both. How does one create a wiki page without falling into this problem. Now if I create another attempt at this page I will run afoul of other issues. It says to "first contact the deleting administrator" however I do not see how to do this anywhere. Please help, I am a rookie at this.

The deleting administrator is Jni. You can contact them on their userpage, User talk:Jni. At the bottom of http://www.sou.edu/envirostudies/faculty/jones.html it says "All Content © 2012 Southern Oregon University 1250 Siskiyou Boulevard Ashland, OR 97520 541-552-7672" That means it can not be copied directly from there to here as it does not have a compatible license. -- GB fan 01:36, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

suggestion about content display[edit]

Hi, Suggestion is about content interlinking . There are various interlinking of pages of wikipedia .Whenever I am reading any article , various blue color text which has separate links are given. It is tedious task for reader to go to that page and read the whole transcript which is just needed to understand the original one .Instead of that , if wikipedia could do like 'if I bring the cursor on the link , it should show the first paragraph of link content in yellow color box below the link.' Wikipedia has such a feature, though it can only be used by users with registered accounts. To enable it (once you have registered an account), go to your user preferences, select the "Gadgets" tab, and check "Navigation popups". Maproom (talk) 08:33, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
