Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

EditTips

  • Try joining the chatroom at various times of day if you don't find anyone active or logged in at first. Just like any other public place, people come and go. Activity in the IRC room also varies by time zone.
  • Log in with the username you want to use.
  • IRC commands can be difficult to understand and use correctly at first, but don't be discouraged. It should become much easier with practice.
  • Say something. If there isn't anyone talking, say hello, then wait for a response. If this is your first visit to the channel, you may find it helpful to introduce yourself to those chatting. If there isn't any activity going on for a while, don't assume you are being ignored, as it is possible no one is watching the channel when you join.
  • If you are concerned about someone impersonating you, try registering your username. Do this in the "Freenode" window, not #wikihow.
  • Type /msg nickserv register <your-password> <your-email-address> and replace <your-password> with the password of your choice and replace <your-email-address> with your email address. Ignore the brackets. Then press enter.

EditWarnings

  • Be civil. You can be blocked for excessive foul language, flooding (entering a great deal of text into the channel), and other disruptions.
  • Be safe. Never reveal personal information such as your full name, age, address, etc.
  • While socializing is acceptable in the wikiHow channel, excessive chatter regarding private matters is discouraged.

EditThings You'll Need

  • An IRC client or a web browser.
