EditSteps
-
1Open your web browser and visit the Places Editor App.Ad
-
2Click the "Report duplicate places" button on the Places Editor Welcome screen to begin.
-
3Read the Tips the app gives you. It'll tell you what the company wants you to know about the app and how you should match them up.
-
4Decipher the name and addresses of the businesses that the app thinks are duplicates. It can be found at the top of the app in bolder print than all other fields.
-
5Locate the map on the screen. The map will be just to the right of the list of places it wants you to verify. This is very important!
-
6Ask yourself "how many places are already placemarked on the map" as you count them in the image/map.
-
7Locate the items that need to be fixed. Count them too, but keep the numbers separate.
-
8Ask yourself "Do those totals match up to one another?" If they do, skip over the next step.
-
9Scroll the image out one level by clicking the "-" button in the one corner of the map/image. Don't go any more further out than this one level, as this can be very hard to decipher later.
-
10Determine if the items name that's in the fields match up. If things aren't remotely close, you can already click the "No" option from below the two names.
- If everything matches up, you may click the "Yes" choice.
-
11Realize that (in ex.)"Busch Stadium" isn't the same as "Busch Stadium College", as these two may very well be two different locations. However, if the places are "Busch Stadium" and "Busch Stadium-Parking Lot", you'll need to go further in to decipher where these two are.
- If these are totally different (such as "Busch Stadium" and "Rams Stadium", these two wouldn't be duplicates. You'll need to check further information.)
-
12Ask yourself "Are the addresses from this of the two or more businesses the same?" If yes, click "Yes."
-
13Look at the map/image closely. Ask yourself "Are these items on the same street or within the same block of items, or all between the same cross-streets?"If they are, you can click "Yes" at this point.
-
14Understand the meaning of "no". The meaning of the "No" button is listed in the first tip below. If at any time the places aren't the same in some respect, you must click "No." if you're not sure, you may skip the edit and move on
-
15Click the "Next place" button to save and continue editing.Ad

EditTips
- If the app says its met all its requirements for the item, it may have inadvertently found a location that has other info to fix in another app. Transfer to the other apps by opening the drop-down button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen and try searching until it finds the right app or another place in the suggested location. It is especially common to have this happen when you search in a non-metropolitan/bigger town/smaller city.
- You may also click the "Next place" button to advance to the next item that needs fixing. Whatever strikes your fancy!
- It may not make much sense to know this, but this is the app that requires other websites (such as Foursquare and Yelp (along with Facebook Places), to record the placemarks and info for the business, so they can all be synchronized to the same placemark.
- When you run into these places, use the same rules you would use, if these places weren't from these separate sources. The same rules apply to these locations as well.
- Beginning with an update in December, the feature now advances from title to title without another action being taken by you. You shouldn't need to click the "Next place" button to move from title to title, unless you mean to skip the remainder of the suggestions. Only perform the reviews of items you're 100% or more sure about accepting/rejecting, as it auto-wipes the information from the suggested list, as you go through the feature.
