Most hospitals have a uniform for volunteers but usually not the red and white stripes like in the old days. Sometimes you might have to pay for one so make sure you have money on hand.
  4. 4
Learn your duties and have fun with them. Volunteering is about and intrinsic reward and helping others.
  5. 5
As you progress, ask for more and more challenging duties; you do not want to get bored. If you do not feel ready, do not burn yourself out.

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

Tips

  • Put volunteering on your resume; it helps you get a job and get into college!
  • Safety first. Many hospitals are very strict on this.
  • Make friends; work is a ton of fun if you have someone to talk with.
  • If some parts of the hospital scare you, like the ICU, Trauma Center, or the Psych Ward, tell your supervisor or boss; you probably are not the first to be bothered by those areas.
  • Be polite; you will be working with adults.
  • If you get a task you do not like, ask to trade it for one you do like.

Warnings

  • Do you know what to do if someone has a heart attack, stroke, or faints? It is rare, but it is better to be safe then sorry!
  • Make sure you know all the codes so if they are called over the P.A., you know what to do.
