Narrow down your search to one or two programs that interest you.
    • Visit each school's website, or call the school directly to get more information on their individual programs.
    • Each school's site should have a detailed description of what their program offers, and what their application process is.
    • Be sure to learn about program dates, fees, schedules, and their faculty.
    • Tuition is a factor when it comes to choosing a Master's program, so above anything else, you need to be sure the program you are choosing will be worth the time and money you put into it. Tips

  • Most MFA Creative Writing programs will require you to complete a thesis, which is usually a book or novel of some sort, based on your area of study. Keep in mind the time and research that will be needed to complete the thesis. It's a culmination of your entire program and most programs won't offer completion of your program without it.
  • When selecting a program, keep in mind your life and work schedule. You want to find a program that fits into your needs if you work full time, or are a parent.
  • The program you pick will also determined by the area of creative writing you want to study; i.e. fiction, non-fiction, poetry writing, etc.
  • Don't be afraid to communicate with the school during your researching, program selecting, and application process. The school can answer any questions you have about the processes, paperwork, tuition, and dates of importance.
