This article will briefly explain how an applicant to graduate school should submit GRE scores to a graduate program.

Steps

  1. 1
At the time of writing the computer-based GRE, you may send scores to up to 4 institutions as part of the test fee.
  2. 2
If you decide to send scores to other institutions, carefully read the instructions on the graduate program website(s) in which you will be applying to.  It should include how exactly the graduate program wishes to receive GRE scores.  Normally, scores cannot be older than 5 years.  The information on the website will usually include a unique institution code number, a 5 digit number, which you will need to send in your scores.

Tips

  • Look under "Admissions" or "Prospective Students" or "FAQ" for information about GRE score submissions when researching how to submit GRE scores to your graduate program.
  • Graduate school admissions are often handled by both the graduate program AND the university. Therefore, the university may require GRE scores even though your graduate program of choice may not require them at all. Just because there is no mention about GRE scores on the graduate program website of your choice, make sure you still don't need need to take the test for university admissions.
  • Regardless if you sent scores during or after writing the GRE, you should carefully read each graduate program's instructions about scores as there may be important information. For instance, some indicate they would like a copy of the unofficial scores mailed to them, and some may indicate that only those who have earned scores within a certain range should apply.

Warnings

  • Do not e-mail or call the graduate program to ask about how to submit GRE scores unless you are 100% certain there is no mention about this anywhere on the website.
