The whole thing leaves you with an appalling chill. It feels like a warning from Hollywood to the ambivalent creators of anything: Take the spoonful of sugar or we'll force-feed it to you.
Gail Pennington
Pencil Thompson in now for an Oscar nomination, and maybe a win, and prepare to leave the theater humming the iconic songs.
Tom Long
The sap doesn't run too thick, although it does run, and the movie certainly has a patented Disney upbeat feel much of the time. It's more a spoonful of sugar than medicine for aging baby boomer's...
Steven Rea
Smart, delightful.
David Thomson
Saving Mr Banks is a merciless film. It hits you with every sentimental low blow it can think of. Then it pounds you again. And when you're down, it jumps on you.
Colin Covert
"Saving Mr. Banks" is a shameless wad of corporate PR, a feel-good, self-serving Disney film about the making of a Disney film.

Great for Disney Fans Excellent movie (or docudrama) for Disney fans. Great acting, costumes and drama, going behind the scenes of one of the best Disney movies ever made (Mary Poppins). Having said that, I can see where it could be considered slow and boring at times if you're not a Disney fan, or if you haven't seen Mary Poppins yet. If you haven't seen this Disney Masterpiece yet, what are you waiting for?

A perfect film. I love all things Walt, and even though you didn't see every side of him, Hanks did a great job channeling the man behind the Mouse. Emma is amazing as PL Travers and really becomes a sympathetic figure through all of the anger and frustration she vents. Colin Firth did a terrific job as the author's father, that entire focus of her story through flashbacks made me think this was destined for an Oscar.

Hate but love!!!!! When you look at the big picture of this movie and look at the background of the real P.L.Trevor its sad has heck. You know this women had a hard child hood and than to read that her grandchildern said she loved know one and know one loved her, aaaaagh I cryed during the film. This poor women, she had altogether a REALLY bad life which is blanketed by the disney magic in this story. I hate that this lady had such a hard time but I love how this movie presence her life and pulls the strings of emotion.

An Impossible Cranky Unlovely Woman Mrs. Travers is portrayed as rather one dimensional, but perhaps she was in actuality just so. Half way through the movie Thompson's one-note portrayal of a pedantic overbearing boorish old lady becomes very wearing. Thankfully we are given the tiniest glimmer of humanity in Paul Giamatti's role as her driver. However, not quite enough to save this movie. If Travers was really like this, I cannot imagine why someone didn't just strangle her.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story Emma Thompson delivers the perfect performance of a likable but critical author doing battle with Walt Disney and his studio; the culture clash with post war British sensibilities and Hollywood's casual way of doing business during the sixties makes it a fun romp; however there is a darker backstory in the outback of Australia which makes this film poignant.

Amazing I knew that this movie was going to be amazing just from the previous. Took me a while to catch up with it all and understand it fully, I love a challenge when it comes to movies. Now that I fully understand it I'm going to watch it again. It is totally a must see and of course its good its a Tom Hanks movie!
Wonderful This movie was wonderful!!! I loved it is worth the money. Best movie ever!!!!!!!!

Want to be depressed and simultaneously bored to death, then watch this! Horrible movie. Watched this with my daughter and we were not entertained at all. We were not expecting such a depressing movie. Not kid friendly! Your better on a pair of ear plugs and watching Frozen for the umpteenth time with the kids.
Sometimes when you have high expectations You have a far way to fall! Especially when the caliber of actor is as is utilized here. I gotta say i was cooling off fast on Hanks after Capt Philipps MEDIOCORE (sp) acting and played out story (see the film 'hijacked' if you really want to understand the dynamics of the Somalia pirate problem).. Sorry again.. Tangent.. Alright yall.. THAT BEING SAID I LIKED THE MOVIE A LOT AS WELL AS FELT HANKS REDEEMED HIMSELF ! ! As always, take care..... Jeff 'Lovits'

I love Emma Thompson. In my book she's right up there with Meryl Streep. Tom Hanks is a favourite of mine, and he has been since Splash. To imagine both of them in the same production was indeed a delicious prospect. But now that I've seen it, to say that I am disappointed is the least. The delivery is slow, the see-saw between P. L. Travers' younger years and the 1960s, where she is now, is ineffective and not always revealing of motives or reasoning. However patient one is, the ending cannot come fast enough.
