Winner of the Academy Award® for Best Actress, Dame Helen Mirren gives a spellbinding performance in The Queen, the provocative story behind one of the most public tragedies of our time - the sudden death of Princess Diana. In the wake of Diana's death, the very private and tradition-bound Queen Elizabeth II (Mirren) finds herself in conflict with the new Prime Minister, the slickly modern and image-conscious Tony Blair. The Queen, also starring Academy Award® nominee James Cromwell (Best Supporting Actor, Babe, 1995), takes you inside the private chambers of the Royal Family and the British government for a captivating look at a vulnerable human being in her darkest hour, as a nation grieving for its People's Princess waits to see what its leaders will do. Suspenseful, heartfelt and riveting, it's a fascinating story you won't soon forget

Bob Mondello
A lesser director might make all of this deadly earnest, but Frears treats it as what you might call a tragi-comedy of manners, perfectly serious but human foibles everywhere.
Joshua Rothkopf
Both [Michael Sheen and Helen Mirren] understand the prickly push-and-pull that defines the fight -- the Gray Monarch v. the Great Modernizer -- and give quiet gravitas to the polite but firm...
Joe Williams
With its lavish imagery and elegant writing, The Queen is a majestic film, and Mirren is the heir apparent to be crowned best actress of the year.
Roger Moore
In good times and bad, for good or ill, she is the public face of her nation. Mirren, Frears and Morgan let us see just how much a burden that mask has been.
Rene Rodriguez
Allows us to understand just how heavy the crown really sits.
Bruce Westbrook
We see not only the inner corridors of power, but also sense the inner workings of the royal mind. Stephen Frears' deft direction also gives the film insight and even humor.

The Queen Beautifully put together. I watch this over and over again from time to time. Thank you for allowing us into your World and for this movie. Princess Diana's memory will always live on, in our memories and through her two sons, Princes William and Harry. Princess Diana will always remain as the Peoples Princess, forever.

Helen Mirren is fantastic I didn't really know what this movie was about except for the queen part in the title. Finding out it mainly is about the time surrounding princess Diana's death and how the newly elected prime minister Blake and the royal family deal with this hole circus. Loved it, feels very plausible
