    Set your language. Siri recognizes several different languages, so you'll need to tell her which one you want to speak.
    • Locate the Settings button and tap, then tap General > Siri > Language.
    • Pick the language you want, then tap Done.

    Connect to the internet. Siri works by sending your requests to the Apple servers. If you're not connected, you won't be able to use Siri.
    • Locate the Settings button and tap, then tap Wi-Fi.
    • Your phone will automatically search for nearby networks when Wi-Fi is on.
    • If Wi-Fi is not on, slide the switch to the On position. A list of available networks will appear.
    • Tap on a network name to connect. Enter a password if prompted.
    • If there is no available Wi-Fi network, your phone will connect to the internet through your cellular carrier.

    Activate Siri. Wake Siri up by pushing the Home button and holding it down until you hear two beeps.
    • If you don't hear two beeps, check to make sure Siri is on.
    • From Settings, tap General > Siri. Slide the switch to On if necessary.

    Make yourself a contact card (optional). Siri needs some basic information about you in order to operate. You'll provide these details in a contact card. If you don't already have a contact card for yourself, here's how to create one.
    • From the Home screen, click Contacts.
    • Tap the + (plus) button to create a new contact record.
    • Fill in your information. Tap Add Fields if you need additional fields. When you're finished, tap Done.

    Tell Siri who you are (optional). Now that you've created your own contact, you need to tell Siri which one belongs to you.
    • Locate the Settings button and tap, then tap Mail, Contacts, Calendar.
    • Tap on the My Info button. A list of all your contacts will appear.
    • Scroll down to your own contact record and tap.

    Introduce yourself. The easiest way to get Siri to call you by name is to ask. Simply say, "Siri, call me Jake." Speak slowly and clearly.

    Confirm. Siri will then ask you to confirm your name. "From now on, I'll call you Jake. OK?" Reply "OK."

    Correct Siri's pronunciation if necessary (optional). Siri might not be able to pronounce your name correctly at first. Here's how to help Siri say your name properly.
    • Locate the Contacts button on the Home screen.
    • Tap on your name, then tap Edit
    • Scroll down to the bottom and tap Add Field.
    • Tap either Phonetic First Name or Phonetic Last Name
    • Spell your name out phonetically, then tap Done.

    Tell Siri your nickname. If you prefer that Siri call you by a name other than the one on your contact card, follow these steps.
    • Locate the Contacts button on the Home screen.
    • Tap on your name, then tap Edit.
    • Scroll down to the bottom and tap Add Field.
    • Tap Nickname.
    • Type the name you want to be called. Remember to spell it phonetically if necessary.
    • Tap Done.
