International meeting at INTERPOL aims to better protect cultural heritage

LYON, France – Safeguarding the world’s cultural heritage from crime and the dangers of conflict is the focus of the 9th International Symposium on the Theft of and Illicit Traffic in Works of Art, Cultural Property and Antiques at INTERPOL’s General Secretariat headquarters.

Works of art

The illicit traffic in cultural heritage is a transnational crime. At INTERPOL, we are working to encourage not only police, but also art and antiques dealers and owners of works of art to play an active role in the exchange of information. This combined action will strengthen our efforts to curb the erosion of our cultural heritage.

Pharmaceutical crime

Pharmaceutical crime involves the manufacture, trade and distribution of fake, stolen or illicit medicines and medical devices. These products pose a major threat to public health as counterfeit medicines can be harmful or even fatal. At INTERPOL we are working to dismantle the international organized criminal networks behind this type of crime.

Cybercrime

Cybercrime is one of the fastest growing areas of crime, due to the speed, convenience and anonymity of modern technologies and the Internet. INTERPOL’s cybercrime programme works to identify emerging threats and to develop tools and services to enable police to respond on an international level.
