Receive and Return a Lease

Please read the following information carefully to ensure all deadlines are met.

  • Confirmation email upon completing the application does not mean you have an apartment at Shattuck House. You receive an offer package if your application is accepted.
  • Once you’ve received a lease offer from our office, you have five business days to return your signed lease and the payment.
  • We have a fixed-term lease at Shattuck House, and the lease terms are not negotiable. Please note that start dates and end dates are not negotiable.
  • You will need to print out, read, initial each page of the lease, sign, and return all documents.
  • Please read the Shattuck House Guide_2015-2016 on our website prior to signing the lease documents.
  • The Operations Office must receive the signed documents and initial payment within five business days of the email being sent to you in order for you to secure the unit. The exact due date will be specified in the lease offer. You may returned your signed documents by email (scanned PDF file,) fax, or by mail. If you return them by mail, we strongly recommend that you use an overnight mail service (i.e., FedEx, DHL, or similar service) to ensure that the documents arrive on time.
  • If your completed documents and payment do not arrive on time, the unit will be made available for rental to another applicant. You will need to reapply to be considered for a new unit. This does not guarantee that you will get selected for another unit.
  • Initial Payment: Your first month rent is due with your signed lease packet. Your initial payment must be made in wire transfer or certified check, and must be made in US dollars.

    You must email the receipt to Housing@hsph.harvard.edu with your lease packet. Without the receipt, your application is not complete and will be delayed
    ***IBAN Number- The US is still a member of the SWIFT community and does not have an IBAN Number as that system is used in European nations only at this time.
  • Certified check: (Personal checks are not accepted)
    Must be made payable to Harvard University. Please include the following information on the Note section: “Shattuck: Unit # _____: Your name.” Mail to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Operations Office, 677 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115. Attn: Shattuck House
  • If you do not want to accept our lease offer for any reason, please let us know right away, so that we can offer your unit to another applicant.
  • Once you have returned your signed lease documents and initial payment, we will process and countersign the documents, and then we will send you a confirmation email.
  • You will receive an email with more details about move-in and key pick-up a couple of weeks prior to your arrival date.
