How to Call Someone Up on a Par 3
One of the most frustrating things a golfing foursome can experience is being held up by the group ahead of them on the course. Another frustrating thing is being the group ahead doing the holding up. Often it's just that the entire field is slow and there's not much you can do about it. There is one option that can speed up play - call the trailing group up on a par 3. Here's how.

EditSteps
-
1Check with all members of your group that they are happy for the trailing group to play up. Then, allow everyone in your group adequate time to play their tee shots. Once all tee shots have been played, there are two options for how to proceed.
- If the trailing group is already on the tee box and waiting for your group to finish the hole, let them know that you are going to allow them to play up. Then proceed to the green
- If they're not there yet, proceed to the green.
-
2Reach the green and then mark all balls which are on the green with your ball markers. Then move to the back of and away from the green. Wave to the players in the trailing group and let them know they can play their tee shots.
-
3Let the group play their tee shots. Once all four of them have played their tee shots, your fourball can proceed with finishing the hole.
- Chip and putt until everyone has finished the hole
- If there is a ball from the trailing group in your path, mark it and replace the ball when you're done.
-
4Done. This should have sped things up a bit, calmed everyone down and allow you the space to enjoy the rest of your round. So move swiftly to the next tee and have fun.

EditTips
- If the group behind you is clearly playing better and faster than you are, this is a good opportunity to let them play through. You can carry on playing the hole as they walk up to the green but when they arrive, let them finish the hole first. They'll move on to the next tee and you can finish up after they're gone.
