Xtext, Robots and Quirk Busters in San Francisco Spring is around the corner and it is time for another EclipseCon NA . This year I will be pretty busy: As some of my colleagues unfortunately cannot make it, I took over their sessions, resulting in one talk or tutorial per conference day. And as we decide...
First, thanks for your response. I think JavaFX is exactly what I meant -- I just really haven't replaced my swing apps with it yet.
I find the swt usage of native components, makes eclipse much less flexible. Consider the latest "Dark Theme" -- completely unworkable (at least on GTK) without switching every single thing on your system to a dark theme -- which then breaks other swt apps that don't have a dark theme (Lotus Notes for instance).
As far as that link goes -- that is exactly right -- but without any real push behind it I'm sure it will not succeed... The Eclipse foundation as a whole needs to realize that it is time to move beyond swt.
Your answers will help us make the next conference even better. When rating EclipseCon 2015, please consider all aspects: tutorials, talks, keynotes, receptions, activities, exhibits, registration price, venue, hotel, food, WiFi, etc.
Sven Efftinge and other developers of Xtend / Xtext will be giving to back to back seminars. Xtext is an open-source framework for development of programming langauges and domain-specific languages. Xtend is a flexible and expressive dialect of Java, which compiles into readable Java 5 compatible source code. Sessions will be very interactive lots of demos and discussion.
