Argh, what's that bright light???

Time to go back inside and curl up with some new kernels that came out last week:
  3.18.2
  3.17.8
  3.14.28
  3.10.64
And for the brave and smart:  3.19-rc4

Remember, this was the last 3.17-stable kernel to be released, you should be using 3.18 by now as 3.17 is not to be seen again, just like this sun in the Pacific Northwest.

23 years ago today was the original Linux announcement on comp.os.minix (but no actual code drop).

How time flies. In remembrance, you can get 3.17-rc2 and play with it, if you want to help test what is bleeding edge today. 

Quiz time:
The second most common place that Linux kernels are released is:
  1) Deep underneath our subartic lair
  2) On a ferry in the Puget Sound
  3) Sitting in an airport waiting to be shuffled off to some random city for unknown reasons.

If you picked 3), you were right!  (the construction of the lair is still on-going, don't get us started on contractor overruns...)

And of course, 3.16-rc7 came out yesterday, but you should already be running that one, I don't have to tell you that.  It's the kernel release that powered these releases.

Hey there - Linux 3.17-rc6 is out, and I'm hoping this is the last rc for this release. 

It would be lovely if people would test it on their hardware (and with their software) to make sure it's all ready. And even if you worry about testing development kernels, by rc6 it really is pretty safe. So go for the cheap karmic brownie points.

It was almost closing time, the kitchen was shut down, the waitress was off getting our last drink orders, 2 empty cases of wine were in the corner of the room, half of the dinner party had escaped before the second round of liquor-infused gelatin shots had caused an arm wrestling match between the intern and the CTO, when suddenly the phrase "Double Funky Skunk" escaped Alex's lips for no good reason. It was then that the 3.15.8 kernel codename was established.

If you don't like the 3.15 kernel, and want something a bit more "mature", 3.4.101, 3.10.51, and 3.14.15 are also out now for your enjoyment.

Me, it's time for a nap, it was a very late evening...
