Substantial production over the forecast period 2014–2020, will be the result of both capacity expansions and the commencement of new projects. The islands of Kalimantan and Sumatra dominate Indonesia's coal production and steam coal accounted for all the coal produced in the country, with the largest coal mines being the Sangatta, Paser and Batuah Village mines in East Kalimantan, and the Alam Duta Kalimantan mine in South Kalimantan.
Scope

Key Highlights
• Coal deposits are scattered across 11 distinct basins on the four major areas of the archipelago that makes up Indonesia. The deposits are widely distributed across Sumatra, Kalimantan, West Java and Sulawesi.
• The major export markets for Indonesian coal in 2013 were India, China, South Korea and Japan. Steam coal exports are expected to grow over the forecast period with rising demand from India and China.
• A competitive advantage for Indonesian coal miners is its low cost of production compared to the global average. As a result, many coal mining companies in Indonesia are continuing to increase production despite weak coal prices.
• Indonesian coal deposits have low to medium calorific value, with high moisture and low ash content. The main advantage of Indonesian coal is its low sulphur content, which makes it one of the cleanest coals available in the world.

Nest, a Google company, detects temperatures inside homes and automatically adjusts it by tracking its user's habit. These technologies are quickly developing and with it come challenges such as bridging infrastructure gaps, abiding by privacy concerns and making the concept a reality. These challenges can't be addressed w...
SYS-CON Media announced that Splunk, a provider of the leading software platform for real-time Operational Intelligence, has launched an ad campaign on Big Data Journal. Splunk software and cloud services enable organizations to search, monitor, analyze and visualize machine-generated big data coming from websites, applications, servers, networks, sensors and mobile devices.
The ads focus on delivering ROI - how improved uptime delivered $6M in annual ROI, improving customer operations by mining large volumes of unstructured data, and how data tracking delivers uptime when it matters most.
Given the current global furor over continuing data breaches, Edward Snowden disclosures, the hue and cry around NSA data collection from mobile phones and mobile encryption, now is a good time to stop and think before we plunge wholesale into even more extensive collection of personal information from IoT environments and devices.
Think how much worse a breach of data could be if it includes full profiles of people’s movements, actions, eating habits, purchase preferences or even more personal information. Consider at the same time the potentials for abuse if this information is improperl...
Cloud computing is transforming the way businesses think about and leverage technology. As a result, the general understanding of cloud computing has come a long way in a short time. However, there are still many misconceptions about what cloud computing is and what it can do for businesses that adopt this game-changing computing model. In this exclusive Q&A; with Cloud Expo Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan, Rex Wang, Vice President of Product Marketing at Oracle, discusses and dispels some of the common myths about cloud computing that still exist today.
"There is a natural synchronization between the business models, the IoT is there to support ,” explained Brendan O'Brien, Co-founder and Chief Architect of Aria Systems, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at the 15th International Cloud Expo®, held Nov 4–6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
SYS-CON Events announced today the IoT Bootcamp – Jumpstart Your IoT Strategy, being held June 9–10, 2015, in conjunction with 16th Cloud Expo and Internet of @ThingsExpo at the Javits Center in New York City. This is your chance to jumpstart your IoT strategy.
Combined with real-world scenarios and use cases, the IoT Bootcamp is not just based on presentations but includes hands-on demos and walkthroughs. We will introduce you to a variety of Do-It-Yourself IoT platforms including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, Spark and Intel Edison. You will also get an overview of cloud technologies s...
One of the best things about working here is the collaborative nature of our team. We throw around ideas, critique each other’s suggestions, and ultimately arrive at some pretty smart decisions through a combination of talking, illustrating, venting, analysis, logic, and insane amount of passion and conviction. And yes, there’s a lot of caffeine fueling all of that.
This style of working – thoughtful, insightful, respectful – has given us the freedom and courage to make important changes to our products and in the technology we believe in. By the same token, we have wonderful customers who wo...
Starbuck's is expanding the roll-out of their mobile ordering, loyalty and payment app. This is one of the most interesting mobile apps from a major retailer that I have seen. Before I summarize the key features and benefits, let me share the purpose of Starbuck's latest roll-out according to The Seattle Times' Angel Gonzauez,"...to draw more customers into a digital ecosystem that is closely entwined with its rewards program, whose users tend to buy more, and more often." This is part of their plan to double revenue to $30 billion by 2019.
If you're not using the Internet of Things to engage your customers, you should be.
Earlier this week Jessica Groopman from Altimeter published a thought provoking white paper that recommends 5 consumer facing use cases for IoT. For each use case she highlights the value proposition for both the brand and the customer, describes a few key methods for engagement, and closes with some real life examples. While you can download it for free (registration is required), here's my outline of the 5 most compelling uses cases from the report.
15th Cloud Expo, which took place Nov. 4-6, 2014, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA, expanded the conference content of @ThingsExpo, Big Data Expo, and DevOps Summit to include two developer events.
IBM held a Bluemix Developer Playground on November 5 and ElasticBox held a Hackathon on November 6. Both events took place on the expo floor.
The Bluemix Developer Playground, for developers of all levels, highlighted the ease of use of Bluemix, its services and functionality and provide short-term introductory projects that developers can complete between sessions.
Last week I explored how small data, rather than big data, can be a critical component of the Internet of Things.
To drive the point home I went looking for more examples of companies using both small and big data to improve decision-making.
I stumbled across an innovative startup out of Boston named Ovuline who has built a mobile app for women trying to have children.
The app uses data to predict when they are most likely to conceive. You heard that right. Women provide a variety of personal and heal
As I’m sure most readers of this blog already know, tech media company Gigaom shut its doors earlier this week. Stalwarts of Gigaom’s public-facing news site such as Stacey Higginbotham, Derrick Harris, and founder Om Malik have already offered personal perspectives on their own sites, and I expect others to follow in due course as they digest what happened and chart their own next steps. A strong team of knowledgeable, conscientious and respected journalists and support staff lost their jobs this week. I wish all of them luck in finding something new. But there was another side to Gigaom’s bu...
Michael Porter, author of the most highly regarded of all business strategy theories, Competitive Advantage, describes how there are now three distinct eras of how technology can be defined to impact upon the ability to achieve this advantage.
Michael makes two very important points. The first point is that there has previously been two eras and now there is a third – the first being when corporations started to use IT for automation purposes, described in this 1985 article, followed then by when all of this IT became interconnected via the Internet, described in this 2001 article. Then in th...
While the exact time and place of the creation of cloud computing are open for debate, the latest data shows that the United States has surpassed Europe in cloud adoption and embracing the Internet of Things (IoT). According to both the global analysis and advisory firm IDC and the research firm Gartner, the seesawing numbers now place the US rate of IoT adoption higher than Europe, primarily due to uncertainty of the Euro overseas.
