Creation of Site

Initial construction of distributions and if combining distributions or updating both core and commons which both need an update: This is better achieved by downloading, unzipping the files into a new local directory, Core first, then then other distributions into this new directory overwriting where called for.
The next stage is to upload the the contents of the directory onto the new site by using a FTP programme.
Go to system update below

Update Modules

Go to the module in administration, and select at the top install new module. In the next screen enter the URL for the module into “Install from a URL”
URL for the new module - the way to get the url is to open in tab/window the name of module from https://www.drupal.org/project/project_module/index, then from that window/tab scroll down till you reach something like

If 7.x is present then select the tar.gz, just hover over it and ask to save the link. If only 6 and below are present then the module is most probably already included in the 7 distribution or no longer suitable, if no 7 is present but 8 is present it also is most probably not suitable for the 7 distribution.

so we have pasted the URL in the module install from URL now select Install when completed the next screen appears either install next module or select Enable newly added modules , which then brings you back to the modules.
Now find newly installed module in the list and check the box to enable the module, then find button SAVE CONFIGURATION and click again which when completed bring you back to modules page. Now the database and system needs updating and synchronizing.

Updating and Synchronizing Database and System.

To do this we change the URL at the top as follows, delete from right to left all to the site address eg http://siteaddress/ then append update.php and then press enter. If the next screen has at the bottom - Check the error messages and try again. just click try again. a screen with four paragraphs should appear: Paragraph 3 Put your site into maintenance mode. open maintenance mode. in new tab/window.

Maintenance mode tick box and then save configuration. Go back to previous window/tab, click Continue.when completed select either Front page or Administration pages and click - go to maintenance tab and unselect box and save configuration, close window/tab when complete return to modules and complete any other configuration and permissions for the new module.
