How to Verify a wikiHow Article
Three Parts:Verifying an ArticleBecoming a Quality TesterFilling in the Spreadsheet
We're working on verifying the quality and accuracy of wikiHow instructions by asking trusted community members to "test drive" them. Ultimately, we'd like to show our readers whether an article has been tried-and-true. Here's how you can help!
EditSteps
EditPart 1 of 3: Verifying an Article
-
1Choose an article from this spreadsheet that you can "test drive" within the next few days.
- There are multiple tabs at the bottom with different subjects you can choose from.
Ad -
2Follow all the steps in the article, from start to finish.
-
3If you were successful in finishing the steps, take a picture of the finished product. It doesn't have to be the best picture in the world, but it does need to somehow clearly show that you completed the task!
-
4Fill in this spreadsheet or email [email protected] when you're done!
- You can upload the picture on wikiHow here.
EditPart 2 of 3: Becoming a Quality Tester
-
1Review at least five articles. What counts here is reviewing, you don't have to verify all five. Reviewing articles and finding issues with the instructions counts, too! You just need to be specific about where you got stuck.
-
2Send an email to [email protected] to get added to the list of Quality Testers!
EditPart 3 of 3: Filling in the Spreadsheet
-
1Find an article with yellow cells beside it. That means it needs to be reviewed.
-
2Go to the article and review it. Make sure the instructions work!
-
3Go back to the spreadsheet and fill your name in under the "Reviewer Username" section.
-
4In the next box, put a "y" if the article worked and an "n" if it didn't.
- Leave any feedback you have for the article under the "Notes/feedback" section.
- If the article didn't work, leave a note under the "Notes/feedback" section, saying which parts didn't work and why.
-
5Upload a picture of the finished product with the upload tool. Make sure the title of the image is relevant to the article.
- Put the link to the image in the remaining box under the red header.
-
6Wait for your verification to be checked by a Project Manager.
- If it has been checked and verified by a Project Manager, they will put "verified" in the box under the "Official Verification Status" section.
- If a Project Manager has problems or questions about the article, they might leave a note under the "Official Verification Status" section.
-
7Check the article you verified! Once a Project Manager has put "verified" on the spreadsheet, your name appears on the article!Ad

EditTips
- If there's an article you'd like to test that isn't on the list, send an email to [email protected] with a link to the article.
- Pay attention to how clear the text and images are. If anything is unclear, try to fix it. If you can't fix it, make note of it.
