Hi there! Welcome to wikiHow! I saw your message to User_talk:Bradman1121...It's best not to make empty threats to report users for vandalism. Instead, you could politely ask the user to stop vandalizing pages, and maybe link them to our Sandbox in case they're just trying to test things out. :)

Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to send a message to this user. However, I don't think it is appropriate for you to be threatening that users will be blocked. Only admins, such as myself, have the authority to block users, and we do so based on the evidence. This user has been warned several times already, so there is no need to re-iterate those warnings, especially since the user hasn't been active or violated any policies since.
Again, thanks for your help, but in general, it is best not to re-warn users and threaten them with blocks, unless you actually have the power to block them. :)
Thanks for your understanding,
Jeff

Hi there,
Thanks for explaining! If the users have been blocked and have not made any edits since, there's no need to fret on the past :) I learned the hard way that it's best to leave things as they are in the present moment. To my understanding, it would only be applicable to warn the user (in a friendly way) if he or she is disrupting wikiHow in the present moment, but I would refrain from threatening to block the user, especially since only administrators have the power to block users.
Thank you for pointing out the title mistake in How to Take Care of Liite Siblings. That article was created a little over a year ago, and was redirected to Care for Younger Siblings.

Also, I saw some of those messages on her page that you left, and while it's cool that you want to help with guiding users and the like, you'll probably want to leave that to admins and the occasional NAB, since you're still fairly new. ;) If any user directly starts doing something you don't agree with to you, that's when to take action. If any other user notices something, it's that user's job to take care of it as well or ask for help from someone. Don't worry about it - it's still really cool that you're getting active on here! :)

Heya Mokingjay!
Just wanted to drop by and check in on how editing was going for you so far. Do you have any questions about wikiHow, or any of the policies, that I might be able to help with?
I noticed you left a note here for another new editor. It's awesome that you're eager to help new folks out! I just wanted to touch base because I didn't really understand your message, and I think it might be confusing to her, too. What do you mean by "we ask that you not say anything harmful to any players"? Are you referring to how we treat other editors in the community? Had she said something that you felt she needed input or a warning about? If you do see comments that aren't appropriate or within guidelines here, your best bet is to make a report on the wikiHow:ANB so that an Admin with the experience and responsibility to assess the situation and take action can take a look.
I'm also not totally sure why you'd recommend answering bug reports in the forums? If a user sees a potential bug and reports it there, responding to it is generally something that staff members do, since we can help with troubleshooting and pass that information on to the engineering team. Did you mean something else?
I think it's awesome you're eager to help new editors out! I just want to make sure you're on the same page with the community about the best ways to do that. Have you checked out How to Welcome New wikiHow Users yet, and How to Contribute to wikiHow As a New User or Beginner? Give them a read over and let me know if you have questions or concerns. If you're looking for a way to get your feet wet with editing and interacting, the Quality Guardian and Knowledge Guardian are great tools to start out with. Have you tried those yet?
Looking forward to hearing from you about your thoughts! Thanks :)

Hi there! Please note that everyone does not believe in a religion. That was his/her opinion and was not being rude in any way. Everybody on wikiHow has their right to speak up, as long as they are not begin abusive and spooky.

Hi, I would like to echo Adelaide's message above and kindly ask you not to threaten that users will be blocked. Administrators determine when blocks are necessary and block users accordingly. Hi Mokingjay. Thank you for starting a new article on wikiHow!
I noticed that a title you started (How to Stay Toasty During Winter) is very similar to a title we already have: How to Keep Warm During Winter. It looks like they might be duplicates! On wikiHow, we consider two articles to be duplicates when their titles are practically interchangeable (even if the content is different). When we find a duplicate, we then work to make sure all the information ends up consolidated on one page, typically the one with the simpler, more commonly searched title. That way, our readers can find everything about that particular topic in one place.
If you agree that the title you started is a duplicate, you can help by adding your how-to advice to the other page. The duplicate page will likely get removed in about a week, and we don't want to lose all the great information you provided. If you don't think your article is actually a duplicate, feel free to leave a note on the discussion page (which you can find here) explaining why, and let me know, too. Sometimes we make mistakes, and we definitely don't want to delete it if it is different!
If you have any questions or need help with anything, just reply to this message. Thanks again for contributing!

"i don't really like hearing mean messages on my page. I was trying to talk to her but she continued the behavior. Please try to explain it better. The only offense was she was acting inappropriately on this website."
I would just politely ask the user to stop the behavior. Leaving a note such as "Please stop doing (whatever the behavior is) because (explain why the behavior is inappropriate). Thank you for your understanding" would suffice.
"about your first message after flicketies, its better that you leave me to this site. I know that it is called wiki how but i think i could even call it coco--cherry--puffs if i wanted to. But is wiki how a type of wikipedia just for learning how to do things?"
You can call wikiHow whatever you would like to call it :) No, wikiHow is not affiliated with Wikipedia, just a wiki how-to site, but we do have some things in common with Wikipedia. For instance, both websites are powered by MediaWiki.
"Also, I'm still fairly new, so its better i should receive kind messages even though i am a lot of days old"
I apologize if I was being mean. That wasn't my intention; I was just trying to offer advice that might help you become a better contributor. To my understanding, it is seen as a threat by the community to tell users that they will be blocked if they continue a certain behavior.

Thanks for helping out on Recent Changes Patrol!
Patrolling is wikiHow's first line of Quality Control, and it's awesome you want to lend a hand! There's a lot to learn when you start patrolling, but a few guides can help:
How to Patrol Recent Changes |
Some Patrolling Basics to Get You Started:
- Article edits: If they're accurate and helpful additions, hit Mark as Patrolled. If they're vandalism or involve unnecessary inclusions of brand names or external links, hit Rollback. If they are helpful but are not in wikiHow style or format, or the edit contains mistakes, do a Quick Edit to fix the change.
- New articles: If there's a blank space on the lefthand side, instead of an old version of the article, it means it's a new article. If there are mistakes in it, you can use Quick Edit to fix them up, or add templates for further editing. If you're not sure what needs fixing, just go ahead and skip them for now. New articles can be especially tricky!
- User pages: Most edits here are okay. Only roll-back or question the edit if it's clearly vandalism by another editor or contains abusive content.
- Talk pages: Generally, messages between talk pages that aren't vandalism or abuse are fine, too. You can mark them as patrolled, most of the time.
- Discussion pages: Generally, most comments here are fine to patrol, but if you see obvious or repeat spamming, abusive or offensive content, you can remove it.
If you have questions, just let me know, or you can ask the Help Team. Thanks for helping out!
