  • The App Store automatically lets you know that there is an update with a number on the icon. You just have to go into the store on your device and download it. It all happens in less then minutes.
  • You can also sync your device after updating your apps in iTunes. However, this is the easiest&simplest process to do, as long as you're not worried about going over the bandwidth or 3G data rates (which most people have unlimited data plans).
  • With iOS 6 and above, you shouldn't need to constantly open the App Store to check for updates. The App Store is pretty good at remembering to check every few minutes and deliver the results back to your device in real-time without much delay.
