This graphic-supported article demonstrates the basic use of the Brainstorm It tool/ module within SBI! Brainstorm It! is the powerful keyword research tool included in the Site Build It! system. Other articles on the extended use of Brainstorm It! will be added to this series.

Steps

  1. 1
Login to your SBI! system. Go to Site Central (Note: If you have not initiated your SBI! site yet SBI! will NOT permit you to start building until you've done your keyword research using Brainstorm It!)...
  2. 2
Inside Site Central click on the Brainstorm it TAB...
  3. 3
The Brainstorm It! module will now load (pop up) in an external browser window (e.g. Internet Explorer). This is where you're going to do your crucial keyword research...
  4. 4
Scroll to the bottom of this page, and look for the submission form, then do the following... Step 1: SELECT FUNCTION... Choose Vertical Brainstorm from the drop down menu...
  5. 5
Step 2: SELECT SEARCH TYPE... Choose EITHER 'Singular OR Plural' OR 'Singular AND Plural' (for initial sessions).
  6. 6
Step 3: Now, enter your 'seed' keyword. So, what's a 'seed' keyword you say? Well, Let's say you have a website about travel to London. You might enter "London Accommodation" as a seed keyword, OR if you are just starting to build your build site and you're keen to investigate something 'about' London as your website theme then you'd start with 'London'. The point here is that you are wanting to identify what people are searching for in relation to 'London' or 'London Accommodation' to then decide (from the returned data) if it's worthwhile building a website about London at all and/ or adding content about 'London Accommodation'...
  7. 7
Now, LEFT Click 'BrainstormIt' ONCE to start your keyword research...
  8. 8
Brainstorm It! will now 'run' and return the keyword research data for your 'seed' the keyword or keyphrase you entered in the previous step. While Brainstorm It! is doing its research keep your finger OFF the mouse button. It is advisable to NOT use your computer for anything else while running a Brainstorm It! session...
  9. 9
When Brainstorm It! completes its research session it will automatically open up the 'Master Keyword List' (MKL) for your keyword research session.
  10. 10
Use the Scroll Bar to scroll to the bottom of the MKL page to find the keyword research data for your 'seed' keyword or keyphrase...

Tips
Provide Details.
Please be as detailed as possible in your explanation. Don't worry about formatting! We'll take care of it. For example:
Don't say: Eat more fats.
Do say: Add fats with some nutritional value to the foods you already eat. Try olive oil, butter, avocado, and mayonnaise.

Tips

  • Look for keyword patterns in the returned data.
  • Read The Action Guide before you start your brainstorming sessions if you are a new SBI website owner.
  • Good keyword research sessions always starts 'wide' (using global terms) and then goes deeper with each additional Brainstorm It! 'run'.
  • Do NOT become number bound with the DEMAND/ SUPPLY/ PROFITABILITY numbers.
  • Because SBI! is a content driven website system the relationship between DEMAND and PROFITABILITY is the most important data.

Warnings

  • Brainstorm It! can be a 'sensitive' program. It rarely happens, however you can crash or freeze Brainstorm It! if you start clicking your mouse button. So, start your keyword research 'run', and then go take a break while Brainstorm It! does its research.
