Steps
-
1First you need to put the tire onto the rim. This can be done by using a crowbar or long screw driver, or other metal rod to pry the bead (the edge of the tire) over the edge of the rim. once you get both sides on you will notice that the tire is on the rim, but it cannot be pumped up with air, because the beads are not sealed to the side of the rim.
-
2This is where the ether comes in. ether is a highly flammable, explosive and volatile liquid. it evaporates into an explosive gas very quickly. you will not want to add too much because it could cause your tire and/or rim to explode. But more importantly it could seriously injure or kill you. so use a little less than you think you will need. to mount a tire spray some inside the gap between the tire and the rim. For a small tire you dont need as much ether. for a big tire you need more. for a regular car tire you probably only need to spray around the rim once. for a truck tire you may need to spray one to 1 1/2 times. .
-
3Lighting the ether is the most important step. for safety reasons, and so you don't burn yourself take a long stick and light the end on fire. make sure everyone is standing a good distance away, and that there are no things nearby that could easily catch fire. Move the flame slowly closer to the gap between the rim and the tire, and get ready for the ether to light. it will make an explosion.
-
4almost immediately after the ether explosion, you will want to start pumping up the tire, so that is stays inflated. once it cools down the bead will most likely come off the rim again. be careful not to get burned touching the tire or the rim while pumping it up, because it could be hot.
