Steps
Method 1 of 3: Assessing Yourself
-
1Assess Yourself.
- Each person possesses a unique set of interests, skills and values.
-
2To discover your interests, skills, and/or values, spend some time figuring out who you are, what you want, and what makes you a valuable resource. The more you know yourself, the more you can convince a potential employer that what you have to offer is what the company is looking for and makes you a good fit for that position.
-
3When you are assessing yourself, make notes on anything you have learned about yourself, this will help you present yourself more effectively in an interview. In the end, your first and most important resource is you.
Method 2 of 3: Creating a Resume
-
1Create a Professional Resume.
-
2To get ahead in the current job market, make your resume as easy to read as possible. Your resume needs to grab a recruiter’s attention nearly instantly. Here are some tricks you can use to make your resume stand out:
- Start your work experience section or skills section on your resume with something that makes sense to the position you are applying for. Don’t make the hiring manager dig through a resume to find your relevant work experience.
- Have a separate section for your skills. If you have a lot of skills related to a position put them into their own section.
- Don’t center align any of your text. Keep your text aligned to the left because it mirrors the way you read – from left to right.
- Don’t justify the text in your resume because it will leave uneven spacings between words and will make your resume harder to read.
- Use a common, clean font like Helvetica or Arial. It will help the recruiter scan your resume.
- Margins and adequate spacings throughout the resume are critical. If you want your resume not to appear crowded it is recommended that you use 1” margins all around. In addition, adding divider lines between sections and other areas of your resume is very important as well.
- Make sure you keep your formatting consistent and use the same font size across your resume. If you wish to emphasize your text, you can use bolding and italics. Only your name should have a bigger font size.
- If you use acronyms write them in addition to the full name of the title, certification, or organization. This way the recruiter knows what you’re talking about and an applicant tracking system will pick it up no matter which format it is looking for.
- When you are writing about numbers use digits because it improves readability and saves space.
- Make sure your resume doesn't have any typos
-
3Use Resume making tools.
- If you are looking for a simple yet easy way to design a professionally looking resume or CV, the following tools will guide you through every aspect of creating your resume or CV.

-
1When you're looking for work, spread your search as wide as possible.
- There are steps you can take to find your dream job, like networking, surfing job search engine sites, job boards, company web sites and/or reading the newspaper want ads.
- Networking means to talk with your family members, your friends, and any other people you know and ask them if they have any information about jobs that aren't advertised.
- If you learn to network effectively you'll get inside information on jobs and careers, and build contacts who can help you find work.
