The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C is ranked:
- #12 in Luxury Sports Cars
- #16 in Luxury Convertibles
The all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C is one of the most engaging cars to drive in the class, but it's much less comfortable and luxurious than its rivals, auto writers say.
The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Though it doesn't produce a lot of power for the class, critics say the 4C has incredibly quick acceleration, thanks in part to its light weight. A six-speed automated manual transmission is standard, and reviewers comment that it shifts very quickly. According to the EPA, the 2015 4C gets 24/34 mpg city/highway, which is great for the class. Auto writers report that the rear-wheel drive 4C has powerful brakes and feels lighter and more agile than most rivals. Because it doesn't have power steering, reviewers write that you have a very direct connection to the car, although it can make turning the wheel at low speeds difficult. Critics also say the 4C has a harsh ride.
Reviewers agree that the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C has a bare-bones, noisy interior with cheap trim and few features. Though they say that head- and legroom are generous, they think visibility is poor and they say that it's incredibly difficult to get into and out of the car. The 4C also has a tiny trunk and almost no in-cabin storage, according to critics. Standard features in the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C include a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary audio inputs and a screen in the instrument cluster that displays a virtual speedometer and tachometer. Available features include leather upholstery, cruise control, an upgraded sound system and rear parking sensors. Critics like the 4C's high-resolution virtual gauges, but they say the sound system delivers poor-quality sound, even with the upgraded system.
- "Fans of seductive styling and elemental motoring will find much to enjoy here. Fans of civilized driving should probably look elsewhere." -- Kelley Blue Book
- "With Italian style, racecar-influenced manufacturing processes and stunning performance, the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C joins the ranks of exclusive exotics. But the 4C gives up a lot of comfort to attain its performance. Similarly priced sports cars are much better for daily driving." -- Edmunds
- "It's just too good a steer and too stunning to look at for me to summon up the effort to care about mildly unsatisfactory in-cabin plastics. The heart wants what the heart wants." -- Autoblog
- "This car will leave you deaf, hoarse, aching, tired, begging for more -- and after having experienced all the joy and pain and burden that the 4C has to offer, let me be the one to tell you that it is all worth it." -- AutoWeek
Other Cars to Consider
The Porsche Cayman costs about the same as the 4C, and critics say it's one of the most agile sports cars available. They also write that it has top-grade interior materials, as well as a comfortable ride that makes it a great daily driver.
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray earns praise from reviewers for its athletic handling and powerful V8 engine. Critics are also impressed with the Corvette's large cargo area, comfortable ride and upscale interior materials.
