When it comes to trying new tools for accessing and reporting ERP system data, users and IT departments may hesitate due to perceived complexity and time constraints for starting such projects. Excel4apps, a provider of best-in-class Excel-based inquiry and reporting software for use with Oracle E-Business Suite, alleviates that concern with a new Auto Server Installation and Setup feature for its Wands 5 Suite of products – GL Wand and Reports Wand for reporting processes and Budget Wand for budget loading tasks.
“While speed and reduced complexity are advantages of the Auto Install feature, our main motivation was preventing installation errors by reducing steps,” said Michele Buson, CEO and Co-founder for Excel4apps. “Finance departments have loved our software for years, and with this new Java-based zero client-install architecture and easier installation and setup, even more CIOs, database administrators (DBAs) and applications managers will favor our products. This new process reduces the learning curve for IT personnel.”
With the initial Auto Install process, DBAs launch an integrated task that eliminates the need for copying files to servers, making configuration changes, and entering setup information. Once the server component is completed, the desired Wands 5 product(s) are available to authorized users via an Oracle Responsibility, eliminating the need to install software on user desktops. With a simple click, this zero client install makes GL Wand, Reports Wand or Budget Wand toolbars available through Excel in minutes.
The Wands 5 architecture also means that all users are running the same version and there is no need for each user to download software during an upgrade, removing another IT task. Auto Install is not only used for new installations, but also by existing customers applying upgrades with the same quick process.
Oracle users who are interested in Excel-based GL Wand, Reports Wand or Budget Wand for real-time budget loading and reporting from Financials and other modules are invited to experience a free 30-day trial for unlimited users. With no hardware, client software, or data warehouse requirements, getting started is easy. Immediate download is available at www.excel4apps.com/trialit.

The biggest, and possibly the most hated buzzwords to happen to IT in the last 10 years have been… Cloud, Internet of Things, and drumroll… Big Data (featuring its ugly stepchild the Data Lake). And over the past 10+ years, I’ve had the job of explaining these “things” to people (many of whom are not technical). Nobody likes new buzzwords – at least not the kind of people I like. But if they become understood, and validated, people start to understand why they’re legitimately needed. And this is the year, 2015, when Data Lake earns its keep.
The need to be connected to the ‘smarter world’ is ever increasing with the rise in the number of mobile devices. LTE is now a global reality for millions of subscribers and the age of the Internet of Things (IoT) is well and truly upon us. While this opens up a variety of opportunities for network operators, it also comes with a warning. With the vast increase in the number of connected devices, effective policy and traffic management capabilities have become key demands for carriers and, as such, network intelligence is more important than ever.
Who needs to go out for dinner, when you have a tireless master chef waiting at home to prepare a gourmet meal for you, any time, day or night? Using hands produced by Shadow Robot Company, the robot chef is capable of producing meals from a collection of over 2,000 recipes, using natural motions learned from Tim Anderson, a human chef and winner of the BBC's MasterChef competition i...
At first glance, the idea of more connected things suggests simply that there will be more devices around and, as such, more products for manufacturers to make and sell. Of course that’s true, but increasingly the industry is realizing that there is actually more value in the services related to connected things than the things themselves.
As more things get connected, analyst projections forecast a global market of 50 billion connected devices by 2020, the range of service opportunities is expanding at an exponential rate. And as those services are presented online, they become available fo...
Articles about the IoT (Internet of Things) have moved from technical journals to our daily newspapers. They are a popular mainstream media topic today, but where are there actual business values found as a result of the IoT? In this article we will explore some of these topics.

This data can alert management when there is a problem, event or automatically create se...
5G is not just faster data and/or higher capacity only. It is much more than these obvious characteristics.
For one thing for IoT to succeed; the grand vision created for its debut on a universal scale, 5G is a must. More users; more devices interconnected at any instant of time. The 5G must address the issues arising out of interconnected devices in addition to only users. Also for IoT to succeed additional items like coverage of the serviced region (Can you hear me now!) and more efficient networks.
The data rates required by 5G are some 1000 times that provided by 4G to make things ha...
Thought experiment: let’s say your app gets a message from somewhere, perhaps from another app, but you don’t know from where. The message contains the number 47 but no other information. What should your app do with the message?
The answer: nothing. There’s no way for your app to make any sense out of a single datum with no context, no additional information or metadata about the datum itself.
Now, let’s scale up this thought experiment to a data lake. There are a few common definitions of data lake, but perhaps the most straightforward is a storage repository that holds a vast amount o...
Just to be clear, no enterprise, no matter how large, has all the capabilities in house to bring a complex IoT product or service to market without some outside help along the way. Take Nexia, an IoT service for running your connected home. Creating this offering required a number of specialized disciplines in areas such as device design, electronics, digital systems, application integration and ergonomics, to name just a few.
Security is one the more prominent of the application service categories, likely due to its high profile impact. After all, if security fails, we all hear about it. The entire Internet. Forever.
So when one conducts a survey on the state of application delivery (which is implemented using application services) you kinda have to include security.
Which of course, we did.
A lot is written on mobile technologies, the Internet of Things, social media and analytics, but little is written on how all these might work together in a retail environment. I think best by writing, so let's think this through together.
Blind spots are defined as, "Areas where a person's view is obstructed." Many business decisions today are still made based on conjecture (unsubstantiated assumptions), because the data needed to make a data-driven decision lies in an operational "blind spot."
