Two Methods:Clay MountainPaper Mountain

This tutorial will explain various ways to make a miniature mountain. This mountain can be made from clay or paper and it can be used for model train sets, dioramas, displaying on a shelf or in any other modeling projects.

Method 1 of 2: Clay Mountain

  1. 1
Take a lump of gray or purple clay. The lump size depends on how big you want to make your mountain. Choose gray clay for a realistic mountain, or purple clay for a fantasy mountain.
  2. 2
Mold the clay into a fat cone, wide at the bottom and pointed at the top.
  3. 3
Round the cone. Round the tip so it isn't as pointy, and make small grooves into the cone, making it look more like a mountain.
  4. 4
Take some white clay or paint. Cover the mountain where you'd like it to appear snowy, possibly just around the rim of the mountain.
    • If you want, you can put some more white on some parts of the mountain, or take some green and make some small plants or moss on the mountain.
  5. 5
Follow the clay manufacturer's instructions for completing the clay drying process.
    • Put the mountain in an oven and bake it if needed.
    • Alternatively, if you've used air drying clay, air dry it.
    • If you want to paint the mountain, cook or air dry the mountain first, and then paint it.
  6. 6
Use the completed model mountain for your specific reason.

Method 2 of 2: Paper Mountain

  1. 1
Cut a four pointed star out of paper.
  2. 2
Tape all four points together to make a pyramid.
  3. 3
Take the tip of the pyramid and tape it down.
  4. 4
    Color the mountain.
  5. 5
Use the completed model mountain for your specific reason.

Tips

  • For a more efficient coloring on your mountain, color the mountain before you tape it.

Warnings

  • Do not bake the model for too long or too little. Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
