How to Put a Photo in a wikiHow Article
Images enhance the presentation of our articles and make it easier for others to learn. They clarify and illustrate text. Adding them from the Guided or Advanced Editor is easy!
- If you're using the Article Creation Tool to write your article, you can publish your article first with text only, and then click "Edit" to add images, using the steps below.

1Click on the Edit tab at the top of the article you've chosen.Ad -
2Click on the "Add Image to Steps" button (in Guided Editor), or the Image icon (in Advanced Editor).- In the Guided Editor, you'll find it under the relevant section.

3Choose the step that you want to add the picture to. -
4Search for photos we already have permission to use on Flickr and Wikimedia. You can adjust your search terms and click "Search" to find relevant images from either source. If you find one you want, click "Insert." -
5Alternatively, click the "Local File" tab to upload a photo you have saved on your computer. Note that this should be a photo you've created, not one you found on another website. -
6Assign the appropriate license to the image. Select it from the drop-down menu. If asked, provide the source information. -
7Determine the size, layout and caption of the image.- Note that placement of large or landscape images on main steps will be automatic, anyway.
- For smaller, portrait-oriented images that are right-aligned, you can adjust size/placement and add a caption. For images in substeps, you can also make adjustments using these options.

8Click on Insert File. -
9Click on Done to return to the Edit page of your article. -
10Adjust the image code further, if you'd like. You may want to change the alignment or size more after you've finished editing and previewing the page. -
11Click on Publish, at the bottom of a page, to save your changes.Ad

Warnings
- Only registered editors are allowed to import or upload images.
- Do not use animated images.
