How to Calculate a Bowling Handicap
Handicap in bowling helps players maintain fairness for all levels of competitive play. Though someone will usually calculate your handicap for you, it is good to learn how to calculate your own.
Steps
-
1Calculate your bowling average. To determine your average, take the number of pins you have knocked down, (usually in a season), and divide by your total number of games.Ad
-
2Find out what your league's "basis score" and percentage factor are. If there is a head of your league or an experienced player, they will likely know. The basis score is usually 200-220 and the percentage factor around 80% to 100%.
-
3Subtract your average from your leagues basis score. For example, if your average is 120, and the basis score is 200, you would get 80. 200-120=80.
-
4Take the number you generated from the last step and multiply it by the percentage factor. To do this you may have to convert a fraction to a decimal. So if your percentage factor is 90% you would do (yourlastnumber)*.90. Or in our previous example, 80*.90 to get 72.
-
5Use your handicap. The number you have generated from these steps is your new handicap. You can now use it when playing in a league.Ad
