A midi keyboard controller gives a music producer or musician a tactile interface to allow control and input of notation, playing characteristics and parameter manipulation.

Steps

  1. 1
Decide what features or capability you want from controller. These include how big you want the keybed i.e multiple octaves and weighted keys if you are a keyboard or piano player; how much space you have, if you desire an inbuilt interface (sound card) do you want controller knobs, sliders/ faders, transport controls or drum trigger pads included?
  2. 2
Allocate an acceptable budget and you will be able to start narrowing down your options. Research online or visit your local retailer for further advice and possible purchase.
  3. 3
Setup with external power supply or bus power (direct from USB cable which will be included), proceed to install and register your drivers so your computer software will recognize the midi controller and automap commands if possible.
  4. 4
Play, record and deliver a hit song!
