Absolutely, that restaurant article could use more substance, but who knows what our readers might consider "helpful?" The author certainly seems to have a feel for some of the nuances of the business, but he appears to have passed over a lot of details. Let's hope another restaurateur comes along and sees the article.

In response to your question, I have edited other wikis before on multiple wiki frameworks: dokuWiki, Wikimedia, Wikia, and WikiDot. Some of the wikis I've contributed to, I've made extensive changes and additions due to lack of content or consistency. This is especially true on wikis for certain games, where the information isn't updated nearly as often as it should be.
One of my least favorite things to see in an article or How-to is anything based on an easily disproven myth (for example, the myth that shaving makes hair grow in thicker). Not only is the reasoning baseless, but it also reflects poorly on the integrity of any given site's ability to deliver correct information.

Hi Anna I created an article called 'how to improve your knowledge' and you suggested I merge it with another article, thanks for the advice and I was wondering how to go about doing that.

Is there a list or guidelines for editing an article? Not the nut and bolts of wikiHow:Editing Basics, rather more subjective things. I noticed in the Family Dinners article, someone added in the introduction, about after the dinner, being too full for "even a thin wafer." That comes directly from a Monty Python skit, the one from The Story of Life. Isn't that plagiarism??? Also, when it is time to quit editing, is there a way to freeze an article. I did the Ballerina edits again just now and last night, before yet another editing session, it looked like monkeys had been playing in the text. Just aiming high as I am sure you would want us all to do. A simple list of dos and don'ts of editing needs to be reviewed.

hey anna just had a look at that article 'how to improve general knowledge' and before i merge the article to it want to run something by you. it seems that the general knowledge in the article is portrayed as a specific kind of knowledge about current culture, tv radio and general talk. much like mathematical knowledge is specifically about addition subtraction, division, multiplication. whereas the article named, how to improve your knowledge' by not having the 'general' pretext appears to be not about a specific type of knowledge, and would perhaps be strange to merge with an article on specific knowledge such as general or mathematical knowledge. Just wanted to run that by you before I move it,I dont want to disrupt anything so i thought i had better ask. Thank you :)

You are such a cool head. This is just so different from how I have worked in the past. It takes getting used to. No particular concerns about the ballerina article. After I got the pictures with it, there were quite a few changes I did make. Prior to that point, it was reading a little/lot spacey. I think it is better now. Glad about the pop culture reference. I tend to stay miles away from any hint if treading on another's work. Thanks again. Oh, I was in a tiny town called, Wallingford on Thames, between Reading and Oxford, about 40 miles Southwest of London. Tea time again for me, the perfect way to take a break. Horrors! I do use teabags, but, I do know the proper way and have all the accouterments. Oh, cool history, I lived in a really wonderful old, old house, a gentleman's farm in earlier times called, Nuneham Murren. I loved how places had names rather than just numbers for the address.

thank you for taking the time to reply to me anna. it could be a personal thing but I wil explain my thinking behind it. I was thinking of things that would enter a general knowledge quiz and things that would not make it into a general knowledge quiz. and using this as a measuring tool, the category 'general knowledge' would seem to disqualify other kinds of knowledge that perhaps are not so well known or would require focused study in that specific field to know. for instance a general knowledge quiz would likely not contain a quadratic equation or ask the participants to perform a a SWOT analysis on a new business model and would therefore disqualify these types of knowledge from being included in the 'general knowledge' category. However This was just a quick analysis I had after looking at the article and what it seemed to suggest by the methods presented. Again thanks for getting back to me :)

Maybe user:Seymour Edits (SE) is successful, but it cuts off editors/mashes articles. Let me explain. I just put 6000 bytes in about 10 edits of How to Bluff in Poker; so, next I'll feel gutted, if SE ransacks the article. I do not see SE doing nice, graceful, in-context edits. It totally deletes 4, 6, 8, and 10 people's work/devalues their contributions, unnecessarily. Surely, there could be some collaboration. Collaboration should be in essence: working in context (first). Doing it the SE way is thrashing hard working volunteers for working.
EditHow to work in context:
- Make multiple passes to clean the steps and substeps for phrasing and smoothing, before any bold edits.
- Add in some steps still in context, original order, valuing people's previous work.
- Finally, reshuffle and organize the steps.
EditThis will have allowed editors to see what was done before it was tossed like a mixed salad.

As I understand it, Seymour Edits are done through the wikiHow office by interns/staff???.
It is utterly frustrating to try to verify/appreciate amazing, wonderful changes they made because the new version has no correlation to the original...
I have tried repeatedly to follow the parallel comparison on many of them: it's hopeless! I find they usually delete the text, paste in a whole new version, not doing collaborative edits at all, as such -- but they should do inplace/in context edits, in large part to begin the process.
For the purpose of collaboration, we should respect "legacy" edits and do edits consistent with the existing form and order of the article, at first...
Avoid disrespectful, fell-swoop rewrites, where they clear the edit window and "replace all" with a random order/non-correlated redo. -- concerned, Gary

Well, the wikiHaus could set some guidelines for SE to be collaborative/in such a way that the efforts of editors new and old shown to be appreciated. They do not at this time operate in a mannerly/civil way.
One could quickly do a brush-out and set before, cutting hair to the bone, and pasting on a wig/scalping and graphing new scalp.
The SE is only doing it in a bold redo manner because that is okay in the office. If a Assume Good Faith systematic approach were taken, it would not have to be so. I never do a smash and burn, pull down and tear up edit. It is not necessarily in Bad Faith, but it is murderous to not be kind and use sedatives in the approach.
