How to Make a Checklist on wikiHow
Two Methods:Guided EditorAdvanced Editor
Checklists are useful tools that can enhance your articles if you have lists of ingredients or items that the reader needs to be aware of. There is a specific format in wikiHow that will help your article to conform to the expected standard checklist for wikiHow articles; this article explains how to make them in both guided and advanced editor formats.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Guided Editor
-
1Open the article you want to edit. You can type it into the search box, or if you know the name, then you can type it into the web address.Ad
-
2Click on the edit link either in the section under wikiHow to do anything or click "Edit" in the green bar at the top of the page.
-
3If it opens the advanced editor, click "Switch to Guided Editor" in the white box at top of the page.
-
4Scroll down until you see the "Options" section, then check "Food Ingredients" if you are doing ingredients or "Things You'll Need" for non food items. Then scroll back to the top, where you should see a section saying "Ingredients." "Things You Need" should be near the "Options" section.
-
5Put an asterisk(*) before each ingredient/item and use a new line for every ingredient/item.
-
6Click preview to make sure that there is an Ingredients section at the top or a Things You Need section at the bottom. If not, repeat the process.
-
7Click publish.Ad
Method 2 of 2: Advanced Editor
-
1Open the article that you need to edit. You can type it in the search box or type in the web address.
-
2Click the "Edit" link at the top.
-
3Go to the Advanced editor. You may need to switch from Guided Editor to Advanced Editor.
-
4After the steps, tips, and warnings, type == Things You'll Need == . If adding ingredients, place this before Steps, as == Ingredients == .
-
5Put an asterisk(*) before each item/ingredient. Use a new line for every new ingredient/item.
-
6Click "Preview" to see if it works. If not, repeat the process.
-
7Click the "Publish" button.Ad
Tips
- If you need more than one checklist, place a gap between items on the checklist and add the next list. Simply use the spacebar to make a whitespace gap, then proceed with the next checklist. For example, a recipe may need a checklist of ingredients for both the "Cake" and then the "Frosting", and this will allow you to make make two separate checklists, one after the other. Be sure to add the headings to make it clear what each checklist relates to.
- If you have used methods in an article, you can make separate checklists relating to each method by using a whitespace gap between each list under either Ingredients or Things You'll Need, adding a heading relating to the method, then adding the checklist for each method as outlined above.
