Becoming a Young Leader
The YLD application process opened in 2015 & will close April 15th for the YLD meeting at the World Diabetes Congress in Vancouver in 2015. All the application forms have been sent to the local Diabetes Association who are members of the International Diabetes Federation – so please make contact with your local association.

After the age of 30, it is hoped that the Young Leaders join their IDF Member Associations as full Adult Leader as the YLD programme trains the future leaders of the diabetes community. They may also perform duties of mentorship to the new Young Leaders as YLD Alumni.
- You have diabetes (type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes or any other type of diabetes)
- You are between 18 and 30 years of age
- An IDF Member Association supports your application (click here for a list of IDF Member Associations)
A new batch of Young Leaders is inducted and trained every two years at the YLD meeting prior to and during the World Diabetes Congress. The next YLD Training Programme will be held in Vancouver from 24 November to 4 December 2015. For each batch, the IDF Member Associations can nominate one new Young Leader (along with the ones from the last batch).
Each Young Leader is expected to take up a project, under the supervision of their Member Association, which aims at benefitting people with diabetes (please read the mission and vision statements of the YLD on the website). A project progress report, signed by an executive officer of the IDF Member Association in the Young Leader's particular country will be requested by the Chair of the YLD. As per policy, we do not accept applications for people older than 30 or younger than 18 years, as long as that is the legal age in your country. We have to oblige to the legal age in your own country. We believe that after the age of 30, the person can become an active adult member of an IDF Member Association.

Collaborating with the YLD programme
There are various ways to get involved with the YLD. If you belong to an organization, please Contact us through our "Contact us" form below, and we'll get back to you. If you are an individual who wants to work for diabetes, please contact the IDF Member Association in your country and ask them for making you a part of the projects being run by the Young Leaders under that particular Member Association.

YLD leadership training and World Diabetes Congress 2015
The IDF's World Diabetes Congresses are held every two years. The next congress is scheduled from 30th November 2015 – 04 December 2015, in Vancouver, Canada. The YLD Leadership Training is held prior to the congress and afterwards the Young Leaders will of course attend the congress.
