How to Prevent Bloating in Dogs
Bloating can occur in dogs that exercise too soon after eating or that eat too soon after exercising or by food lacking in good nutritional content for the dog. There may also be medical reasons behind the bloating, and it's wise to have your dog checked out by a vet if this is proving to be a regular occurrence.

Steps
-
1Make sure that the dog food brand you are using is of good quality.
- Ask what dog food brand your friends/family members use
- Look at the comments on their website
- Look at the back of the dog food bag and see what is in it
-
2Do not give your dog too little or too much food. Feed your dog one scoop of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.[citation needed]
-
3Provide some real meat in the dog's diet. Most dog food, no matter how high quality, needs supplementing with real meat, to keep your dog's health optimal.[citation needed] Feed your dog chicken with the bones taken out once or twice every two weeks.[citation needed]
- Make sure that all of the bones have been removed; if they splinter when the dog chews them, they can cause intestinal ruptures or jaw/gum cuts.
-
4Wait at least one hour after exercising your dog before feeding your dog. Provide a small drink but make sure it doesn't drink too much.
- Allow the dog 10-15 seconds of drinking water (slow counting), then stop it if it hasn't already stopped.[citation needed]
-
5Don't feed your dog anything less than 30 minutes before exercising it. It is best to avoid feeding it anything in the hour prior to exercise but if you need to, waiting 30 minutes they should be okay.[citation needed]
-
6Exercise your dog just the right amount. Depending on the size of the dog:
- Small to medium sized dogs should exercise from 30 minutes-1 hour.[citation needed]
- Large to extra large sized dogs should exercise from 1 hour to 2 hours.[citation needed]
-
7Don't force your dog too keep exercising. If your dog starts to get tired, then stop. Know what your dog will do when it gets tired; it will most likely:
- Stay right next to you instead of running ahead
- Start slowing down
- Want to lay down and stop.
Warnings
- Be sure to take out all of the chicken bones when feeding your dog chicken.
