wikiHow Launches in Korean Live at the Creative Commons Global Summit in Seoul, Korea

October 15, 2015

WikiHow is proud to announce the newest addition to the international versions of our site: Korean. The Korean site went live just moments ago at the Creative Commons Global Summit 2015, which is currently taking place in Seoul, Korea. While the site has just launched, the number of articles available in Korean is growing every day. Now available in 16 languages, wikiHow is excited to continue furthering its mission of teaching anyone in the world how to do anything.

wikiHow is also available and building in: English, Spanish, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, Indonesian, Japanese, Arabic, and Thai. With each launch, we continue to bridge language barriers in hopes of making a free and easy resource more accessible to anyone with a desire to learn.

Everything you read on wikiHow is written by someone that wants to help someone else. With the creation of each new language site, more people will also be able to share their knowledge or help improve the quality of existing articles. As each language site continues to grow, we hope to see individual communities flourish over time and house content that is unique to readers of that language. Together, as a global community, we can continue to help one another with the how-to questions that come about in our everyday lives. Learn more about our Language Projects here.

Did you know that ⅔ of the people on the planet are still not Internet users? Our mission at wikiHow is to give everyone (yes everyone) a free, practical education on how to do anything. To do that we need to make the Internet more accessible to more people. That’s why we are delighted to announce that starting yesterday wikiHow is available without any data charges on Free Basics in Thailand.

In Thailand we partnered with Facebook and TrueMove H to provide this free service. wikiHow along with Wikipedia, UNICEF (Facts for Life and End Violence Against Children), Malaria No More, Girl Effect, Baby Center & MAMA, and several other information sources comprise some of the free basic internet services which will help people benefit from their first experiences with the Internet.

Free Basics is a Facebook-led initiative with the goal of making affordable internet access available to the two-thirds of the world who are not yet connected. We often take the internet for granted, when in reality, access to knowledge alone can offer a wealth of resources to those that need it most. Via Free Basics, an App and mobile website, wikiHow is now available without data charges in ten countries including Malawi, Philippines, India, Ghana, Bolivia, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, and South Africa.

In Thailand, TrueMove H subscribers can use Free Basics free of charge, simply by visiting http://freebasics.com from any internet browser on their mobile device,  or press *699# and call free on their phone to get a link to the Free Basics service. Free Basics is available to TrueMove H prepaid and postpaid customers, and can be accessed from both feature and smart phones.
