    Look at the cat's face. The face is often a good indicator to help to tell cats apart. In the case of a Chartreux cat, you will see an apparent "smile". This smiling style of face is the result of how their head is structured, with a tapered muzzle.[1]

    Check the eyes. Look for roundish, bright golden, or orange, or coppery eyes. The eyes will not be as round as those of a British Shorthair.

    Look at the cat's whole body. It is a large and muscular cat that has fine-boned limbs that are fairly short.[1]

    Check the fur. The coat is short, of a blueish-grey colour and napped in appearance (meaning that it shows breaks in the fur alignment due to it being a double coat).[1]

    Examine the cat's temperament. Expect the Chartreux cat to have a quiet temperament. It does not make much noise and is not one for mewing or crying much; indeed, some are mute.[1] Yet, the cat is intelligent, notices a lot and can be trained to do things such as fetching, if wished.
    • This is quite a playful cat and very affectionate with companion humans. This is considered a good cat with children.[1]
    • This cat tends to bond with one person while still being affectionate toward others in the household, including dogs.[1]
