What Are You Thankful For?

In honor of Thanksgiving, we challenge you to seriously ask yourself this question! Sometimes, we lose sight of the things that are most important. Or perhaps, we overlook the essentials and take them for granted.

If this still leaves you feeling unfulfilled, consider the following steps to Be Thankful in the Moment:

  1. Take a break.
You may just need to feel better first!

  2. Tell someone you appreciate them.
Let people know that they matter, that you notice what they do and what it means to you.

  3. Give back.
Being thankful isn’t just about telling people. It’s also about giving back to your community and friends – and no, they don’t owe you one. Pay it back, or pay it forward.

  4. Focus on intention.
Someone gave up their precious time, money, or _____ to do something for you.

  5. Just say thank you.
Saying it out loud can cement the feeling of gratitude. Say it to the people that help you throughout the day, or say it as a sort of prayer or mantra.

  6. Find the thankfulness in specific events.
When you’re going through a tough time, cultivating gratitude will get you through it more than anything. There is always something to be thankful for, even if it’s a very small thing (the sun is shining!). Finding those things and acknowledging them can help you to lead a more fulfilled and content life.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Similarities > Differences

We encourage everyone to consider the similarities you share with other people, rather than focusing on the differences.

Consider Empathy:

In a world that spends so much time picking at flaws and igniting fear and anger in people, empathy can be a balm to that fear and anger. It can help you, and others, lead a more fulfilling and healthier life.

Empathy means you have to put yourself in their shoes and be aware of and sensitive to their feelings to help them.

Here are main points from: How to Show Empathy:

  • Listen.
  • Open up.
  • Offer physical affection.
  • Focus your attention outwards.
  • Withhold judgment.
  • Offer help.
  • Practice curiosity about strangers.
  • Volunteer.
  • Challenge your own prejudice.
  • Use your imagination.
  • Practice experiential empathy.
  • Treat people as being important.
  • Practice loving-kindness meditation.
