Research Computing

In February 2012, the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and FAS Research Computing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which allows Harvard Chan School primarily appointed faculty, researchers, staff, and students to access the FAS RC computer cluster (Odyssey) and basic storage, along with software licenses.

More than 400 accounts have been created since the signing of the MOU. Utilization of this resource lowers the overall cost of computing, increases efficiency, improves our ability to operate on a large scale, and allows us to maintain a competitive advantage in research.

Research Computing Operating Committee (RCOC)

The Research Computing Operating Committee (RCOC) brings leaders and stakeholders from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Research Computing Department together to maintain the collaboration and optimize the Harvard Chan School research community’s use of Harvard’s largest supercomputer.

Committee members include:

Francesca Dominici
Senior Associate Dean for Research
Associate Dean for IT
Professor of Biostatistics
Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

James Cuff
Assistant Dean for Research Computing

The RCOC meets monthly to coordinate and manage the collaboration between the Harvard Chan School and FASRC. Efforts typically include:

  • Reviewing and troubleshooting of complex research data security matters
  • Resource planning (personnel, equipment, support, etc.)
  • Outreach and training for Odyssey users at the Harvard Chan School
  • Addressing requested hands-on support needs within the Harvard Chan user community

Please contact Krista Coleman ([email protected]) if you have any concerns that you’d like the committee to discuss at their next scheduled meeting. All time-sensitive and technical requests regarding the Odyssey environment should be sent directly to the FASRC support team ([email protected]).
