The good news, we can shift it. By listening. By being honest. By facing it. With bravery. And vigilance. And making better choices.

Any of you who say "sexism isn't that bad" — you have no idea. No idea. Racism, too. No idea. Powerful forces that require effort to shift.

I knew Aunt Ruth — for many years. It was not that long ago. When I was a kid, most women couldn't get credit cards. Couldn't buy a house.

And her aunt, my Great Grand Aunt Ruth Wilson was too. Born in the 1890s, she became a lawyer. Career woman her whole life. Seen as mean.

Come to think of it, she was seen as a too-strong bitch. A career woman from the late 1930s – early 1970s.

My Grandma Ruth Simmons would have *loved* tonight. I wish she had lived to see this.

It's up to all of us to recognize the racism & sexism we've absorbed from the world around us. And to choose not to repeat & perpetuate it.

So while I don't love Hillary/don't know about her politics — I recognize that feeling welling up to "hate the bitch". And won't act on it.

Which leaves me only one choice. Become myself. Not give up. Knowing that will brand me a thick-skinned bitch in many eyes. Oh well.

I just literally can't bend in girly reverence anymore. I'm too old. It's cost me too much. I got too angry after being treated badly again.

I feel this is my own life & career. I don't want to grow into a bitch. Or witch. But I'm so completely done with kowtowing. Done. I can't.

We hate Hillary for having the thick skin of a woman who's been put through the the ringer. But what else could she do? Only STFU & leave.
