When residents received a text message saying a ballistic missile was heading towards Hawaii, it sent the US state into a flurry of confusion and mass panic. After 38 minutes, emergency management officials issued a correction, blaming it on an employee who sent out the alert by mistake during a shift-change. But as New York Times editor Max Fisher (@Max_Fisher) explains, the error could have resulted in consequences far beyond Hawaii.
