3 personal names into 90GB LC name authority file and I find Which resolves to the name represented by *does* exist but what on earth is that first thing and what data horrors does it foreshadow?

Anyone know the reason OCLC chose to represent 007s as having a subfield code for each byte value (a pseudo-variable field), while treating 006s like normal fixed fields? Other than wanting to make life harder because you cannot paste an 007 value into an OCLC record...?

Hey, saw some data today defined as csv with þ as the record separator. I guess you could say... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) that every row has its thorns.

Performance appraisal season! The one time of year I consider: - returning to a career in food service - other things that you don't post about on the Internets or you might get carted off Everyone LOVES performance appraisal season!

Presumably example queries and those used in documentation/projects worked at some point in time. Is the problem that the data being queried is scaling beyond what the query service can handle?

It seems an increasing number of queries I try time out. These include the built-in Query Service examples and queries used in Wikidata project documentation like Not sure how to handle this when trying to bring people on board w/Wikidata

Here’s a clue that society has all of this wrong. The people who build and understand the most complex things that we all rely on feel stupid when they can’t translate their dynamic, n-dimensional understandings into static, linear speech.

This one does NOT inspire confidence: "It will be a truly random sample, created by choosing every 100th record."

At first I thought this was a conference about all the extra crap we need to build/do to make III products usable. Chicken wires and duct tape = basically my whole life. But I am really trying to minimize travel these days.

This morning's interesting/horrifying little project: survey of all $2 values in 6XXs in the catalog. Found what we needed, PLUS: 6XXs with more than 1 $2 Some with $2s when i2 != 7 And miscodings like: $21st century $2010-2014 Whee!

Good article. I might be a bad cataloger for this, but I frequently make valid but bare-bones authority records on the logic that something is better than nothing and there's no real need for all that personal info in most cases.

This is a neat-looking job for people who think the kind of stuff I do is cool. Also, the people at Notre Dame's Hesburgh Libraries were great when I spoke there last fall.

TFW you are fighting a migraine and are down hit points, sat in the front, have too much crap with you to leave unobtrusively, and realize you have accidentally attended a vendor session at a conference.

In Jan a friend suddenly and horrifically died. In Feb I have been very sick. As if that's not enough, I have felt low grade stress/avoidance re: dropping off my professional Twitter in the middle of conversations in Jan. Claiming Twitter bankruptcy/amnesty and starting over.
