    Why blocking social media doesn't stop misinformation. Rumors spread by word of mouth - and in mainstream news (!!) - just as easily. For all its faults, tech provides an opportunity to debunk falsehoods & question media narrative, particularly where there's little press freedom

    Here's something that unfolded barely an hour ago: the Sri Lankan police falsely identified a student of Brown as a terrorist and plastered her face across national TV asking for information. People on Twitter looked up the image and found the real person.
