computers are one of the most important things, because they are one of the least expensive, most unlimited things. the limit is our imagination, is what we opt to do with them. we can make the screen do anything we have the vision & will to create, connect as we choose.

I miss the joy I felt in my early heady days of computing...my TI-99/4A, the Dartmouth time sharing system, the Computer-Aided Operational Research Facility (CAORF) in NY...but especially programming HyperCard on a Mac & Turbo C on a Kaypro PC. The potential felt unbounded then!

Yesterday I had a situation that just totally epitomizes the futility of software development. 1. My website was not updating after I pushed to master. 2. Hm, I wonder why. Check Travis CI - build is green. 3. Must be the CDN. Check the CDN, purge cache. 4. Still no update. ⬇️

We are living in an era of woke capitalism in which companies pretend to care about social justice to sell products to people who pretend to hate capitalism.

Watching game developers on Twitch work on their games. They'll be looking at their scene and be like "I want to add some more detail to this pipe" and I'm like "JESUS CHRIST YOU HAVE A GAME TO SHIP"

Unpopular opinion: making it super easy to share libraries as open-source is not always good. A certain barrier/inertia to publishing might result in higher quality packages. All the one-line NPM packages is one anti-example.

Any interview with Katsuhiro Otomo is good, but this part talks about crosshatching the Neo-Tokyo explosion in AKIRA is a strong portrait of his dedication to the craft.
