Sydney man becomes seventh PrEP user to contract HIV

Steven Spencer spoke out about his HIV diagnosis, which was unexpected because he had been taking PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) pills as ordered by a doctor for five years. PrEP is more than 99% effective at preventing HIV and Spencer urged people to remember that what happened to him "doesn’t change the fact that PrEP is still the most powerful HIV preventative we have ever had."
