Auto polo, devised by a Ford dealer, was described by a British car magazine as "a lunatic game." Players called mallet men held onto the sides of cars while trying to hit a basketball with a three-pound polo mallet. ~5,000 people attended a match in 1912.

The pinna's job is to collect sound and transform it into directional information for mammals. Fennec foxes use their distinctive oversized pinnae to radiate excess heat and to amplify the sound of small prey burrowing under the desert sand.
