Please join me in welcoming the latest addition to my household. I hope that, in time, you will learn to love him or her as much as I already do.

I definitely felt like a weird kid in a not weird town. Radio helped me realize there were other weirdos out there, too.

I agree 100%. When I was a wee one in the late 70s/early 80s there was a channel that broadcast Shadow reruns and I was HOOKED. Like you, I later found Coast 2 Coast. Thats how I went to sleep every Sunday. And music! Hip hop, classic rock, and pop all one the same station!

It still felt like a medium where stuff could slip through the cracks. That’s the kind of stuff I’ve always been drawn to, the strange things that make no sense in context and feel like a mistake, like a sun flare or the Santa Ana winds helped it drift in from another dimension.

Growing up, there was a magic is stumbling upon something strange on late night radio. It’s how I discovered Coast to Coast (a syndicated show, but stiill). Some conversation about demonic possession. I was immediately hooked.

Radio has been the realm of corporation for forever, but these days it really feels like they’ve scorched the earth. You can drive across the country and fly around the world and hear the same songs on the same stations with the same hosts.

I loved radio. I loved listening to it and really loved hosting it. It was maybe the most purely joyful thing I’ve done in my career. Podcasting is wonderful, too, but for different reasons.

Like you, I get all of my college sports news from television pundits attempting to engage their political guests in small talk.
