    Fast and loose security industry behavior is the elephant in the room in breach stories, which is def not 's fault. But did & ask if they followed responsible disclosure process? Or if they pitched their services to the EU?

    Folks w/ dubious agendas regularly peddle stolen data to influence coverage. This case feels different. Data came from . But some may wonder: so what was their agenda? Security firms don't regularly (my limited experience) share that kind of victim data.

    On the other hand, there is an obvious risk of compounding the original harm by publishing exfiltrated data. Did you think about this as a balancing act? Like yes there is risk, but "there is some newsworthy stuff in here that we can safely excerpt"?

    ...Here are some considerations I wish I knew your thinking on: It is hard to talk about the seriousness of breaches in a fresh, compelling way these days...Showing some of the 'take' in an anonymized way can help illustrate the problem to a wider audience.

    Private threat intel teams need to move beyond just hiring the same US/UK govt intel people, with the same group think, in offices in DC (or Cheltenham) if we want to build trust and have new ideas. There's talent in government but we need some distance.
