    in 1955, BORAX-III provided 2,000 kilowatts of power to the city of Arco, Idaho, making it the first city in the world to be lit by nuclear energy.

    Together with the MTR, the reactor helped improve the performance, reliability and quality of reactor core components. At the time, ARMF-I was considered the most sensitive device for reactivity determinations in existence.

    Advanced Reactivity Measurement Facility No. 1 (ARMF-I) 1960-1974 The ARMF-I, a reactor located in a small pool in the Test Reactor Area, was used to determine the nuclear characteristics of reactor fuels and other materials subject to testing in the Materials Test Reactor.
