    1. Smooth not quick Telling people ‘work faster’ is bad. They stop playing as a team. They get stressed and make mistakes. They trip over each other. Instead, we coach teams to work together smoothly. It works for medical teams, Formula 1 pit crews, and our digital teams. 2/7

    Fear of deploys is the ultimate technical debt. How much time do you waste * waiting until it's "safe" to deploy, * batching up changes into big changes that are decidedly unsafe to deploy, * waiting to get paged and fretting over deploys, * cleaning up terrible catastrophuckes

    Fun new practice encounter of the week ... team has 4x1hr meetings a week. Each meeting matches part of the double diamond (divergent and convergent exploration, divergent and convergent responding/solutioning, etc.) “We found that it was better to organize by frame-of-mind”

    Most important lesson I've learned so far is the concept of "just enough" design: how much research or design or data or work do we need to do to get to the next step? Do that, no more. Avoids diminishing returns, overdesigning and too much time lapse between tests with users. 1

    In some domains, things have shifted so far to measurable outcomes only, that it is institutionalizing short-termism and #-driven mediocrity. And then in others “we can’t A/B test, so we don’t measure anything. Oh, and we have no idea if anything actually had any impact.”

    The real test of focusing on outcomes over outputs is how you deal with desired long term outcomes that are hard to impact / measure in a single goal-setting period (e.g., a quarter).

    If you want more people to participate and get invested in the design process, keep it as low-fidelity as possible for as long as possible. A whiteboard sketch is inclusive and accessible; but only a few can contribute to a Sketch mockup that already looks finished.
