    If someone is deported, also leads the charge in letter writing and advocating on behalf of that person. The support does not end if someone is not released from their check-in.

    A lot of people are NOT detained or deported at check-ins because of the presence of those accompanying them.

    , even for the people who you dislike, and who may not be so respectful to you or the detainee - is because the people with power in those rooms have no power over you. The will exact any consequence of your actions, on the person you are accompanying.

    When accompanying someone for an hearing, you are often their only piece of humanity. This is especially so when they are brought into hearings in jail/prison jumpsuits or only allowed to “appear” video conference.

    There hasn’t been law passed since 1996. Those laws made it easier to people for misdemeanor crimes/crimes of moral turpitude. The aforementioned crimes usually affect POC and poor communities disproportionately.
