Research shows that stopping to think can prevent misinformation from spreading. “People who are more likely to stop and think are better at telling true from false,” David Rand, an associate professor at MIT, told me.
Yet tech developers continue to try to “remove fiction” 
Luckily, there are some *real* solutions here and a bunch of them are in the story. Many of social media's problems are solvable — it just needs to slow down a bit.

This is where you should hit users with a video ad. Right before they engage in anti social behavior that's gonna give them a dopamine hit. It also slows down the engagement which might lead to reconsideration.pic.twitter.com/VSuPvPJ49g
Just today Facebook's Android app for me at least removed the ability to opt in to share an "original post" of a link with a page's or profile's commentary in favor of a "Share Now" button. You should look into this, could contribute to misinformation I think.
up until this week there were three little dots you could select in the mobile app when you share something where you could choose to "share original post."
(the option still exists on the web)
