    So. Facebook has to pay a $5 billion fine but "does not have to admit any guilt for its transgressions, and the FTC does not require structural changes to the way the platform collects and monetizes user data."

    This settlement is woefully inadequate. It fails to put meaningful limits on how Facebook collects and uses our data, shields the company from responsibility for "unknown" violations, and holds no one personally liable for years of privacy violations and misleading statements.

    The FTC’s settlement with Facebook lets the company get away with far too much.
